Information Concerning Acapulco Tour from Roberto

General Information regarding Roberto’s and Oscar’s services
Please note that I am not a tour operator; but, in charge of all operations in the port, including cruise ship and assisting guests to arrange a driver for a city tour.

Oscar is one of our port approved drivers and a city tour costs $50USD per hour for up to 10 persons (cost is for all 10 persons per hour) He has a Ford van with AC, he is fully licensed and insured, you are sure to have a great stay in Acapulco.

On a side note, since I supervise the services our drivers provide, I do not receive a commission, kick back or and gratuity from the driver or guests, this way you get the best price and satisfaction is guaranteed. My job is directly with the cruise ship’s senior staff and helping visitors has been a small hobby of mine for a few years now.

Oscar will meet & greet you at the transport services canopy; he will be carrying a sign with your name.   Note: Roberto later suggests that he will meet us and take us to Oscar’s van (see below).

I will be at the gangway to escort you to Oscar; I will arrange for him to have his van in front of the cruise terminal for a speedy exit.

Some suggestions (in no particular order) from Roberto:

  • The chapel of Las Brisas, where you will have a complete view of the bay and surroundings
  • The Miradores (look out points) of Puerto Marques
  • The Princess & Mayan Palace Resorts, the best places in Acapulco
  • Botanical Gardens of Loyola
  • Fort of Sandiego
  • The House of Dolores Olmedo (Diego Rivera murals)
  • The show of the cliff divers
  • Suburbs of Acapulco to see how the rest of us live
  • Shopping, if desired.

There are more places to see but I’m just highlighting the best.

Cliff Divers private showing for cruise ship tours and how we can see
Regarding the cliff divers, the next “public” show (after 1:00 p.m.) of the divers is at 7:30pm, but there are cruise arranged tours featuring the divers, almost immediately after the ship arrives. There will be about 2 “private” shows for them, you can watch the show from the lower viewing platform (many steps to get to the bottom) or at restaurant La Perla, paying a bit more than the public shows, not sure how much, but I recall that instead of the regular $3USD you pay $5USD.

Answers to some of our recent questions

  1. Do we pay him if we want a break to go back to the ship and then back out again?
No, you pay only the time you are with him in his van about town. He will be more than happy to wait for you, pick you up at 8 to continue to have fun.
  2. Can Oscar take us somewhere to shop for a short while (45 minutes to one hour), such as the Indian Flea Market or what do you suggest?
There are many places Oscar can take you shopping, the Parazal Flea Market, The peasants market (Mercado campesino), the central market, or any of the 3 malls in Acapulco. The central market is the only one I would recommend you to avoid, since there are a few pick pockets in the area; the others are perfectly fine, just make sure to not stray off the group and the guide. There is a scam that pickpockets have been using for a few years now; they squirt you with mustard, approach to help clean and pick pocket.  Perhaps nonshoppers can enjoy another cold one. J
  3. Can Oscar provide beverages or can we stop for some while touring?
I will ask Oscar to have a small water cooler with beer, soft drinks and water so you don’t have to stop at the store to get cold beverages. It will be sold at cost, so no worries.   Perhaps we can request specific types when the time gets closer
