We are Steve and Marilyn Kowalchuk from Bear, Delaware. We met in the early 1980s and have been married since 1986. Steve is a civil engineer who had worked for over 18 years in our county government, several years for an engineering consulting firm, and currently works as a self-employed professional engineer for a local home builder. Marilyn retired earlier this year after almost thirty-two years with our county and state governments, with 12 years in human resources and nearly 20 years as an emergency management planner. We love traveling, reading, boating, and enjoying our little place near Rehoboth Beach, DE. Daughters Karen and Kim enjoy traveling, as well, and we hope to introduce the three grandchildren to cruising within the next few years. Our first cruise was a three-night cruise to the Bahamas in 1993. We were hooked. Since then we have been on a total of 10 and 11 cruises respectively. In addition to the upcoming cruise on the Spirit, we are also booked on a four-night Disney cruise in November, 2007 and a 12-night Baltic cruise in 2008. That will be our 3rd 12-night European cruise, but we have enjoyed all destinations. The upcoming Spirit cruise will be our first from the West Coast. We have enjoyed sailing on Princess and Royal Caribbean ships, but find that Carnival is our very favorite. The atmosphere and staff are extremely friendly and go out of their way to ensure guests have a terrific time. Even with all the cruises taken so far, it wasn’t until two years ago that we discovered cruise critic shortly before our first European cruise. Prior to our 2nd such cruise in April 2007, we made many CC friends with whom we soundly bonded. In fact 12 of us from this past cruise have booked the Baltic cruise together. Having met Linda, Gene, Susan, Dirk, and Robin recently on cruise critic, we feel a bond growing with them as well, and look forward to meeting them on the Carnival Spirit in January. There is something very special about meeting and making new friends from all over the country (and the world) when such friends share similar interest such as travel. |
