by Paul B.

There is a ship
That waits for me
So graceful gliding through the seas,
And on its decks
To feel so free
And stroll there in the ocean breeze.

There was a time
When I was young,
And sailing ships were in my dreams.
The whaling songs
That I heard sung
Of ventures in the ocean's streams.

The crashing surf,
The rocky shore,
The lighthouse friendly in the night.
The mighty waves,
And wild winds roar
Made yearning in my heart take flight.

The tiny ports
Where pirates played,
Their masted ships out in the bay,
The mission ruins
Where friars prayed
All paved the early seaman's way.

The stinging gale,
The swells so high
But still men sailed for wealth or fame.
For, once they heard
The seabirds cry,
Their lives could never be the same.

They call to us,
These memories
Of ships that sailed out on the deep,
And we must cruise
Upon the seas,
A promise that our souls need keep.
